First National Collection Bureau - FRAUD?
Date: Thu, 11/11/2010 - 12:56
I have been living abroad (Europe) for over 20 years but this company is sending letters to my mother's house in the US, addressed to me, saying I owe $2870.41 but that they are graciously letting me pay $861.12 in six (6) payments starting 11/22/10. I told my mother to ignore them as it is obviously fraudulant (or my identity has been stolen) and to send me the letters so I can sort it from Europe.

You have to send them a debt validation letter. If they cannot validate the debt, then send them a cease and desist letter stating not to contact your mother any further.
just got the same sort of letter
Hey, I just got a letter stating the same sort of crud, only the amount was different. I looked up the statute of limitations for debt collection in my state (louisiana, 3 years regarding credit card debt). Also, please know that your credit is not usually effected by anything over 7 years old. There are some great articles on ask.com.
Good luck!
