The creditors generally agree to settle old debts with large outstanding balances. I think that you should wait for a few more days for their response.
i tried to settle with first premiere. they would not take it.
i tried to settle with first premiere. they would not take it. instead i ended up paying the full balance (under 1000). it 2 years after it was closed but they never sold it to junk debt buyers..

That describes my experience so far to a T. It is about 2 years. I do not think they have sold the account.
What they do do is list it on the Credit report as a current rotating balance which reduces the debt/credit ratio whereas collection accounts do not!
They seem to be ignoring certified letters
