At what point can a bank account be frozen? After a judgement? I hear that accounts are frozen and I want to know can a CA do this without you having been to court or getting a summons?

Hello Emma,

If you are dealing with the IRS it is a different story. But with a credit card scenario, they are not able to levy a bank account unless they have a judgment against you. If you do receive a levy then you will be given a certain amount of time in which to go to court and make a case as to why you should be exempt from the levy or why the levy would cause an extreme financial hardship and then you may get the court to grant you a little relief.
