find some one to help my mother get her gas turned on she is 62 and live without any gas i am very worrid about her

Davis - first contact the welfare department in your city and ask about the HEAP program. Then contact the Salvation Army, and any churches in the area, sometimes they have emergency funding for this purpose. so do some of the cities. If she has a medical condition contact her doctor and ask him/her to write a letter to the gas company regarding her condition. Then contact the gas company and ask them about paying the bill on a pecentage plan. They will work with you. Good Luck

Definitely contact the gas company. Usually with utility companies they have special programs for low-income users and/or disabled users. We are on this program with SoCal Edison, where they estimate what your usage will be for a year (based on past history) and then they divide it up over a 12 month period. That is just one program that I am familiar with and might be worth checking it out.

Also, if your mother has any medical condition, contact the gas company, there is a form for the doctor to fill out and it can be faxed back in. It will get the gas turned back on and give you 30 days to get the necessary assistance in place from local agencies. Also, have you inquired about a 1/6 payment plan? And I do not recommend people get on the PIP (Percentage of income plan, it ends up costing more in the end, they will charge you 10% of your monthly income for the bill each month.)

Another thing you might want to consider is the extreme weather that's hitting most of the country right now. I know in my town that the county government just announced programs to help at-risk people deal with these issues on a short-term basis. It was said in the local paper today that 100 elderly people died in my county last summer when the mercury hit 116 degrees over a weekend and they have vowed not to have that happen again.

Our power/gas company are combined, and they offer a Winter Protection Plan that allows you to pay a small percentage of your bill during the winter months, and catch up in April when the bills go back down. It sometimes means you pay a large bill in April, but it does help during the winter. As long as you pay the small monthly amount, you cannot be turned off for power or heat.

For the more immediate situation with your mom being turned off, I would echo the ideas expressed above - they are all very good ideas. Contact any and all charity organizations possible, and if your mom attends church, see if perhaps they would be willing to help until she gets back on her feet.

Please keep us posted about your mom and let us know how this turns out.

You could also contact the department on aging in your area.I have been goin through some similiar things with my mother and they will help all they can as to who to call and such..I dont know what state your in but I'm from PA and governor Rendell is big on the benefits for the elderly so I e-mailed his office and they sent me a package on all sorts of programs and things. The problem my mom is having right now is her furnace broke so shes been without heat for about amonth now.
