I asked these people 5 times to stop calling me at work because I'm not allowed personal calls. I just got caught trying to tell them this again and I got fired for being on a personal call again. I'd like to sue them!!!!

So sorry to hear about this.

If the calls you received were from a collection agency, you may have some protection under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which states that collectors are prohibited from calling you at your place of business, IF you request that they not do so. But, if the calls you received were from a creditor, I'm afraid there's not much you can do since creditors aren't regulated under the FDCPA the way that collection agencies are.

I wish you the best!

Hi,

You're protected by the FDCPA, as no debt collection agents are supposed to call you at your workplace and ask for money. As you've not mentioned who is calling you clearly, it is pretty difficult to answer exactly. But if it's a debt collection agent, you can certainly file a complaint. And if it's a creditor, I'm afraid you need to receive the calls at any cost. However, you can negotiate with them and speak to them about the problems that you're facing due to their calls. This can be placed as a request.

Wrong. Collectors are permitted to call you at work and ask for money. The FDCPA states
Section 805
(3) at the consumer???s place of employment if the debt collector knows or has reason to know that the consumer???s employer prohibits the consumer from receiving such communication.

It is the responsiblity of the debtor to inform the CA clearly that they are not permitted work calls...the CA doesnt have to ask the debtor if it is ok for them to call at work. In this case, we dont know who is calling the OP...we can only wait and see if they return.

if it is a collection agency and you have asked them to stop calling they should have stopped. with that said you should know your rights. You should have followed up with a certified letter to them asking them not to call you. but since you don't have this letter you have little chance of proving what transpired. sorry
