Man, I am not sure what to do.

I owe $20,000 to the IRS, $10,000 to the State of MN, and have another $18,000 in medical bills. I am living on social security disability which pays $1600/mo. before taxes. The IRS has garnished 20% of this for my tax debt and this 20% mostly goes to the interest.

Thankfully, I am not creating any new debt and don't have any credit card debt. I'm just not sure how to get out of this hole I am in.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

- T

I'm not sure about the tax debt, but as far as the medical bills go, some type of debt consolidation/settlement program should be able to help you deal with them. It also would be worth finding out if there is some type of hardship status that you can claim with the healthcare providers to possibly get them to reduce what you owe?
