Help! I owe $20,000

Welcome to the Forum!! I know how you feel I was in the same boat. You have to ask yourself some questions before we can just proceed. Did you want to do a http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/debt-settlement.html debt settlement ? A debt settlement has its pros and cons. You can usually get 50% off all your debts but it does hurt your credit score. I did the debt settlement and I'm almost out of debt. I had 40k over 3 cards. So I was worse in a little deeper then you but There is a light at the end of the tunnel. You have come to the right place. You can try and negotatie with the creditors yourself or you can hire a lawyer. Try and go through a debt settlement company.

I went through a couple of settlement companies and it has been good and bad.

Bad- Hess Kennedy. There are getting sued now and I'm hoping to get my money back from them because they lied to customers. I'll admit they did settle one of my CC but the other is still out there.

Chase Card 12k. Settled for 4,400.
Wamu Card 16k Pending

Good Preferred Financial Services- They worked with me kept me up to date. They got me a settlement in less then a year. I'll admit I'm paying 600 dollars a month over a 15 month period to get the card settled but I will have that card off my books.

1st Financial Bank USA- 17k Settled for 9500

I don't think I need to do debt settlement. I am thinking more of a debt consolidation. Does debt consolidation hurt your credit, too? Does it really save money?
