Hi -- I posted an answer on a previous thread but I wanted to know if I agreed to a settlement with best buy (hsbc) and I asked them to fax a settlement letter to me, or at least mail one to me which I still have not received should I in good faith make the first settlement amount? -- I made the agreement verbally on 3/4 and was told I would have to make my first payment on 3/18 for 400.00 I still have not received the settlement letter from hsbc confirming the settlement. When I called hsbc directly today the rep told me that a "third party" takes care of the settlement letters and I would not receive the letter before the payment date. I told her that I would not pay before I received a letter confirming everything. The rep told me that If I didn't pay by the 18th it would void the settlement and my account would be charged off. She said that when the first woman read the settlement over the phone to me on the 4th that I agreed to it then without a letter. what should I do?

so, tonight I come home and the settlement letter is in my mailbox --- the woman I spoke with this morning was soooo nasty -- you are right aubrey -- I did call again as per your advice and got a much nicer person on the phone this time. She said if I didn't have it, I could call a supervisor to have it faxed possibly. But no need. The letter had everything we discussed to a t. no problems -- made the first payment tonight. as a bonus -- got another letter from home depot -- 25% -- not to bad. thats my next one. hang in there guys -- its not easy but on nights like these it feels better .

Debt settlement is very stressful, but in the end it is worth it. If you encounter nasty people in your journey, just ask to speak to someone higher up, or call back. I've dealt with a lot of very helpful people (except Capital One) who were very sympathetic.

Hang in there and keep us posted on your progress.
