I just recieved a settlement offer from HSBC for 30% off my original debt owed. Should I accept this or wait out for better offer. They said I have until the 27th to accept offer or it will go to collections and blah, blah, blah.

I agree with JB however you may want to try negotiating to the 40-50% mark before it goes to collection. Tell them that your mother-in-law has agreed to loan you (whatever 40% of the balance is). Tell them that you could get have the money in by tomorrow and see if they'll bite. Being a professional in debt negotiation I can say that this is the most time and cost effective strategy. Good luck!

Well I called and the guy said he did not have the authority to reduce it any lower than 30% so I told him I declined the offer. They sent me another letter with the same words except with a new date. the other one had expired. I am wondering if I don't answer if they will go lower. I want 50 at the most but am working on 40% of the balance owed.

30% is a good offer. I settled at 50% last year and I was relieved to get it out of the way. Balance was about 3600 and they spread it out over 5 months. Very easy for me. No lump sum to get together.

Hi there again, To the one waiting on HSBC I got a letter today to settle for 42% of the balance. I am going to take it but I have to do it in 3 payments. I wanted 40%

but that is only 2% more than I wanted to pay. I have until the end of June and I will be calling them then. To who wanted to know how I got my letter for settlement. They just sent it to me. I have several HSBC accounts and this is the only one who

has contacted me. I had applied credit offer me 30% of the balance but I am not

calling them until they offer 60% off.

I just settled with HSBC for 33% at day 165. When I called they said 45% was the lowest they could go and there was no way to reduce it any more. I let the rep. speak her full line and when she was finished I offered 33% in a lump and said the money would goout as soon as they could get me a settlement letter. She jumped on it without getting any approval so when they say this is the lowest they can go do not beleive them.
