I was living in the bad part of town and someone stole my mail a couple of times, well one of those had my credit card payment in it. This card was thru bank of america and was interest free if my payments came in, obviously that payment didn't make it there and I was unaware of that until the next month. By that time my payment was to a point I couldn't pay. Long story short is that I used the credit card to pay the bill for a few months and it ended up maxing my card out. Bank of america said there was nothing they could do, yada yada yada and the account is killing my credit score (went from 700 to 550) and I do not know what to do. Anybody got any ideas. I've tried calling and setting some stuff up to resolve it but they wont accept anything other than my full payment every month which with my interest is over 900 a month. give me some ideas.
EDIT: Someone also has opened up an account with Citibank on September 1st but have not charged anything and this is hurting my account as well.
Ps Sorry for the lack of grammar

If I am reading this right, you suspect someone has opened an account in your name with citibank. If this is true, I would be contacting citibank and I would also be contacting the 3 credit bureaus to take this account off your credit report. Take action now before there are charges on this account and then having that headache too.

mike...go to www.annualcreditreport.com . You can get a copy of each of your reports for free once a year...there will also be links to each of the three. On each of their sites there are places to ask questions, and file corrections. You may have to work on identy theft also...please check your reports closely for any other activity you may not be aware of. If there is a problem with idenity theft there should be a link also on your attorney generals site for filing complaints.
Bank of America
You didn't say how much you owe Bank of America? If you can no longer make the payment, you may want to consider debt settlement. Debt settlement is usually achieved by not paying your card for several months until you save enough to settle the debt as a partial payoff. Bank of America will usually settle between 20%-35% of what you owe. Please read about it and see if you think it will work for you.

Another quick question.. I was preapproved and everything was set in motion for me to buy a house in August before this went down and the owners of the house waited until my preapproval was up to accept my offer.. now my question is.. this house was forclosed on and appraises at $50000 and the bank is asking 17000 can any one point me to a lender that would be willing to work with me? I am nervous to apply really b/c I fear its only going to worsen my score.

If your credit score is 550 right now, you will be very hard pressed to get a mortgage loan. But at that amount (only $17k??) on a home valued at $50k (??) you have instant equity and might be able to get a loan through someplace like American General.
