A lein can remain until the cause of action which occurred is cured or you attempt to sell your home. I doubt your mortgage company would allow any other claim to the home so you would likely need to remedythis quickly:

Some mortgages have clauses which state if you allow another lien or encumbrance to be placed upon the property, they can declare a default and demand the entire balance due...
...meaning you may be jeapordizing your current mortgage if you allow that lien to stay in place and they find out.
