Hi,
I'm a single mom of 2 with no child support or income. I have been living off of financial aid and also credit cards which now are maxed out and amount to ~$30,000. I am now applying to med school and am thinking of filing for bankruptcy. Are student loans for medical school dependent on good credit? Would filing for bankruptcy cause me to be denied for school loans? I'm scared and don't know what to do. Please help!

Medical school is expensive and federal aid does not cover it all. Most medical students do take out private loans which are credit based, usually during their residency. You will be denied private aid with a bankruptcy or bad credit.

My suggestion would be talk to a financial aid officer at a medical school. Costs will vary depending on whether you attend a private school or public school.
