lloyd ward and associates...are they any good? How do I know they are getting it done? I always get returned phone calls. Very nice and polite to me. I just need to know if I need to get out while I can and choose better.

I've seen and read news articles that were exposing some of these firms who say they will help you get out of debt by allegedly corresponding with your debtors and that they can get some of them to settle with you for less. They hold your money under the pretext of having enough money to make a settlement on one or more of your accounts. The trouble is they don't make any payments, take off with your money and you are left holding the bag. Your creditors aren't going to give you any allowance or even believe you if these people take off with your money and leave you worse for wear because you've been responsible and been paying you just don't get anything out of it. These companies can start up business and when the heat gets too much, too many people are reporting them, they can easily change their name and phone number and start up all over again to defraud innocent people of their money.

S.L. is correct, why involve a middleman when you can do it yourself for free. Settlement companies would like you to believe they have some extra influence with your creditors but they don't.

Doing an internet search on these companies will often reveal their activities as there could be complaints written by others who have been taken by these companies. A legitimate company would never question your need for verification of their claims. When it comes to money, there is no shortage of people who would like to find a way to get yours without any benefit to you.
