Debt Consolidation/Managment Advice

It started out with a truck I bought and lost hours where I had worked previously. I put truck payments, insurance, and gas on a credit card, stupid, I know. I had other smaller debts at that time as well. I finally sold the truck, and a year ago decided to do something about my main credit card debt that had risen to almost $5,000. The "unsecured" loan I got from a bank, or lending organization, had an almost 26% interest, but took it anyways. That has brought that smaller debt up to almost $13,000. Plus, my other small debts (car payment, other credit cards, etc.) reaches probably about $18,000.
Growing up, I never was never taught the value of credit cards, and how to stay away from them. I have seen them as an opportunity for quick fixes, but can't get out of the situation I am in. I went through this website, filling out the information about creditors and reviewed its conclusive recommendations.
I need help getting out, with one monthly payment, instead of a thousand different little payments. I'm not late on my payments, but only making the minimum and getting nowhere. Can anyone give me some advice/suggestions? Anything would be appreciated.
Thanks
Christine
P.S. I liked the Debt Managment option on the review, but unsure if this would work out for me. I don't want my credit to get ruined, either.
Morning Christine, first of all I always advocate getting a free
Morning Christine, first of all I always advocate getting a free consultation on this site. I wish I would have had this option when I was in your shoes about 6 years ago. I'm 28 now and have been where you are with the anxiety, stress, and debt. I think you're very wise to concentrate on your education and go ahead and finish up in December. Right now, you're making your minimum payments and while this isn't getting you anywhere right now, look at it this way, you're current and your credit score/report will thank you for this, even though it doesn't seem like it now. You're young and have your whole future ahead of you.
Consolidation may be the way to go for you, but be sure to research whatever company you choose and should you use the free consultation (right hand side of your screen) be sure to bring up the fact that you're considering it.
Beware of consolidation LOANS though...as they are an easy way to get into more debt with the interest. consolidation companies are the way to go, at least for me as they don't charge you interest, but typically charge you a monthly fee which is minimal compared to the debt you have. hang in there, explore your options and you have some time to do this. try to stay current and breathe! you've come to the right place :)
