Just received a call from Zwicker saying I owed MBNA 8000.00 for past credit card. They are insisting I still owe. Paid this off thru Javitch a couple of years ago. I am not sure if I acn find all the past paper work but distincly remember receiving last payout amount. I cant believe Javitch would have let this go If I still owed as they had a court settlement against me.

If you're sure that you've paid off the dues through Javitch, then you should contact and let Zwicker know about it. You can also ask Zwicker to validate the debt for which they are calling. If they cannot validate the debt, then you can send them a cease and desist letter and ask them to stop calling you any further.

Do you have proof of the debt being paid off? Did you get a payoff letter? A settlement letter? Do you have a copy of paid check/money order/draft? Telling Zwicker you paid means nothing...unless you can prove it, they can pursue you including suing you. Cease and desisting could complicate it.

Right. And I am not trying to give you a hard time. But, it must be known as the #1 rule of settlement to keep proof indefinitely of any agreements. It is quite possible for a settled debt to "accidentally" be sold to a jdb or placed with a ca. Since we also need this proof for potential IRS questions, there are more reasons than one to keep the records.
