Anybody ever settle medical charges / debt successfully? Was it on your own or through a settlement company? Should they have to show proof of debt is legit just like other creditors? Thanks

I have done it myself with the medical people. My youngest son was in and out of hospitals for years, so I had to do it then.

I have a son that is on disability and have worked with both the oc and the ca.

I told them this was what I could afford to pay and they would be getting it on such and such date. I had one lady at the hospital tell me that they weren't suppossed to take anything lower than the amount she proposed, but she lowered her voice, and told me to send in what I could and they probably wouldn't say anything.

I think this also depends on how high your bill is too. She had looked in the past and saw that I had always paid off our bills.
One time I paid for almost 3 years on a hospital bill, to a collector because we had no insurance at the time.
