lawsuit

what should I do now that Midland filed a lawsuit againts me for over $4,000 that I supposedly owe them? i never had a business transaction with them, never own a credit card with the last digit they stated in the summon, never received any statement from them since 2004 ( according to them the date the debt started)? Why should I receive any statement or notices from them since I did not do any business with them? We only use 4 major credit cards to simplyfy our lives, plus gas cards. None of our credit cards have the name Midland in it. What are my best , most effective, short, and not costly courses of actions in my case? The time i will spend on this ridiculous lawsuit will be without a doubt a lot.
Another question: is there anything the government can do to stop these companies from harassing unsuspecting citizens like us who now supposedly owe them money? If there are things the govermnet can do, why are these companies still in business?

Midland is a buyer of junk debts. Does the lawsuit not have who
Midland is a buyer of junk debts. Does the lawsuit not have who the original credit was? Have you checked your credit report? Do you have any past due unpaid credit cards that they might have purchased?
You need to send a DV plus answer answer the summons.
