My husband just received word from his employer that $50+ had been garnished from his wages by this company. Last week my husband called TransUnion to get a copy of his credit report, could that have effected us? We NEVER received a summons, or any kind of notice that we were being sued. Never heard of them until today. Came online google searched and found all kind of horror stories about them. We know better than to ignore a summons, but how can we know to appear in court if we are not contacted? What can we do at this point?

Asking for a copy of your credit report from the credit bureaus won't result into a wage garnishment. In order to garnish wages, the creditor/lender will have to file a lawsuit against your husband and get a judgment!! May be your husband's employer may be able to let him know why his wages were garnished. He should have a word with his employer in this regard.

I agree with Anna on this. Nobody can garnish your wages because you asked for a copy of the credit report. The best thing for your husband to do would be to talk to the employer about this. In addition to that, you can try to find out if there were any outstanding debts. However, even if there were any, nobody can garnish wage without actually suing the debtor. In that case, you were supposed to receive a summons and as you did not receive one, you will have to try and find out who did this and get this straightened.
