HELP!!!!

Bottom line is that I owe about 85K (spread over 5 cards). I have been able to make minimum payments and am current on all but am treading water and running out of breath!!! Am considering credit counseling but am scared of getting taken advantage of due to my desperation.
It has been great to read so many success stories regarding debt negotiation and settlement!! Please tell me how you did it. I need to get started ASAP but do not know how!

I think some people have had success with using credit counseling services, but I've also read that sometimes the payments are the same. We stupidly cashed out our 401k to keep up with the minimums (before I found this site) and it was gone before we knew it. We ran out of options and didn't know where to begin either. We just stopped paying in June & July and have come up with a plan to settle. I researched every one of my creditors on this site and found out all the percentages that people have settled for, and used those as our goals. We let a couple of weeks go by to gather up the nerve to start talking to the creditors, and plan to stay in touch with them every few weeks. I keep trying to decide if we should order zipdebt, just for the peace of mind, but aren't able to afford that just yet. The best thing, I think, is to research your creditors here and come up with a plan and a settlement timeline. Good luck!
