Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
If you're a US citizen, then you can go for non-profit debt consolidation to pay off your outstanding loans. Several consolidation firms have achieved the non-profit status from IRS. But, if you're thinking the non-profit consolidation companies will not charge a penny for their services, then you're mistaken. They do charge a nominal value for their services. The non-profit consolidation company will help you merge your multiple bills into one low monthly payment. They will contact your existing creditors and convince them to lower the pay off amount or the interest rate on the loan. This way it will be easier for you to repay the debt.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
You can know whether or not a particular consolidation company is non-profit from their website. Visit the "About Us" section of the company's website and check whether or not they have secured non-profit status from IRS. Find out whether or not the particular company has received 501(c)(3) certificate. If the company is not able to show that certificate, then know for sure that they are not a legitimate non-profit debt consolidation company.
