6 years ago my american express card was charged off. AMEX never sold the account to anyone and I had been trying to work out a payment arrangement with them but they would not budge.

Well, yesterday was the 6 year anniversary of my last payment so the SOL has expired. Found it rather odd that an OC would let the SOL expire on a debt. I really did want to pay it but they never wanted to work with me and kept asking for insane monthly amounts.

The SOL is counted not from the date of last payment but from the date the account became past due (which is probably a month after your last payment). So theoretically they can still sue you for another month. That said, if an account is flagged for litigation, they would rarely wait until the last minute to sue.
