Can you still request debt validation from a collection agency after you made a couple of payments? Palisades sent me a note about a debt saying it would take 90 days for validation and in the mean time i started paying them because i didn't want it reported on my credit report but now it has been 90 days and i havent got validation. Now that i am more informed from websites like this one i think i made a mistake by paying them. they never reported this on my credit report which really makes me think i do not owe anything to them legally.
any info would be appreciated.

collection agencies are suppose to cease all collection efforts once they recieve a debt validation letter. Once you started sending them payments, they must feel they don't need to provide proper validation. I would send a second validation letter certified mail with return receipt demanding validation. Alot of collection agencies try to collect on accounts they don't have.

Hi ctomovich, Palisades was collecting money from you. This can be proven from your bank statement. It is their responsibility to post it towards the debt account they were collecting for. Ask them to send you the statement of your past payments done. They need to give out this information. It will confirm that your money was going to the right hands. If they don't put up anything in writing, you have the rights to dispute with them using legal aid.
