There are several companies out there that only take a percentage of the SAVINGS as opposed to up-front fees. Take a look at my blog for several other things to look out for when dealing with a Debt Settlement company. My favorite is Consumer Recovery Network which offers a DIY option where they charge you a small monthly fee but they will also help you negotiate if you want for a percentage. There really is no catch with this approach but you need to do the math. Understand any upfront fees and if there are monthly fees as well.

Yes, el suavo is right. One, and undoubtedly the biggest problem with the DIY option and "contracting out" for the actual negotiation is the savings regiment. You MUST BE committed to the monthly savings. Every month you should be depositing the predetermined amount into the savings account. A professional company will automatically draft the funds on a predetermined date. This is where most DIY'ers fail. They let the savings lag and lose focus of the overall goal.

He said you pay the 495 fee for the information pack. Then 100 for each debt enrolled and that is it I set aside a set amount for 24 mths and they do the settling.In Pa they don't charge the 15% fee they ask that you in Good Faith give the % to a agency in need.????????? Is this correct..
