Have you looked into legal aid. I am not sure but if jail time is a possibility, I would think about trying to do this without a lawyer. Just my advice.

I'm not too sure about what I'm doing as far as fixing my situation goes. Where can I find the best form of legal aid? Second and better question, what exactly is legal aid and what can it do for me? I'm not necessarily looking to dodge these debts/fines, if at all possible I would like to even go as far as giving myself a decent time extension to pay. Would doing this without a lawyer improve my chances? The judge said I should bring one. I don't even know how serious my chances of going to jail are. But I don't want to take any chances.

Call your local courthouse and ask them how to contact a legal aide lawyer. Legal aide is basically a group of lawyers that work for people that can not afford a lawyer. I am not sure if they can help you in your situation but it would be worth a try.
