Paying Off Judgements
Date: Tue, 12/05/2006 - 14:12
I was told today by a debt consolidation company, Mezey & Associates that no one would take my case because the amounts involved are now judgments. My story is very long and involves a five-year bout with depression and Paxil, which is how it all got to be this bad. Two of the judgements I never received subpoenas for, so never had a chance. One is held by Mel Harris and they just went after my personal checking account.
I am just beginning to heal and my income is a tiny bit better than it's been in over five years, enough so that I feel if my debts were consolidated and I didn't have to fear losing my checking account and whatever I was making, I could have these debts paid off in 2-3 years.
If I can't operate my life like a normal person it will be very difficult to pay my rent, my utility bills -- I live on Long Island and they're very high -- and just plain pay for food. The last time they got $500 and I'm living in constant fear.
I'm also still trying to heal after being severely damaged by the Paxil.
Please give me some advice that might help lead me in the right direction.

Cathy, you will get all the advice from the good people here who are going through similar problems. Most are fighting with their debts and finding an alternative. Since there is a judgment, you have to be extra cautious on the payments. Is second job any option? Take it for a little while until the debts are cleared.
