I paid off a medical bill that went to collections with I.C. Systems on 8/7. I was glad to be done with it as they aren't the most pleasant of people to deal with.

I got a voicemail on my home phone this afternoon stating they needed to talk to me about my acct. I called from work and was told that my payment, which was made by debit card had been returned as NSF. I thought this sounded dodgy, as the charge showed on my checking acct. the day after I paid the acct. over the phone. It shows as paid on my bank statement. The person I spoke with said it was returned to them on 8/18 and I needed to take care of it. I called the bank and they told me it was paid.

Now I have to mail (they won't accept faxes) a copy of my bank statement showing that the charge cleared my acct. If they won't accept this, the bank says they'll dispute it and get my money back. What a lot of hassle. Isn't it enough that I'm trying to get control of my pdl nightmare, now when I'm actually paying something off, I have to deal with jerks like I.C. Systems.

Anyone else had this happen? :x

When you send your copy of bank statement, make sure that it does not give out your personal information that might be misused. Give out that much information only that is required to prove the transaction. Nothing extra!

It's really a pain to go through such incidences. These are not worth your time but still one has to face it. Anyways..

Ummmmm Credit (debit card) charges can't be returned for NSF, once they approve it, its gonna be paid ( if it over drafts your account, you will have to pay the over draft)but once the bank has approved it , its Gonna be paid. You would know right then and there if its gonna be approved or declined.

That's why I said this sounded dodgy. Only checks come back as NSF, and for them to say that the payment was returned this way made me suspicious, as well as the fact that it was definitely paid to them. I'm sure they would have had no problem with me paying them almost $200 a 2nd time, because I believed their claim!!

Okay, here's the update -

I continued to get nasty letters and phone calls from I.C. System regarding the medical bill they claim was returned as NSF. The last call I received from them was even made to me at work, which they hadn't done before. I decided to record the conversation, in case I needed to refer back to it. I advised the woman who called that the payment was not returned by my bank, I had mailed them the page of my bank statement that showed the payment was made to them, and also included a letter from the local branch of my bank to state that the money was withdrawn from my account and paid to them. This lady told me they hadn't received anything on my account yet. I told her it was sent via certified mail, so I would track the delivery. She basically told me I was just coming up with stories to get out of paying. I told her not to call me at work again, and she said she would not until they received payment. I told her that if the account was not marked as paid in full per my written request, I would have my bank dispute the payment and get my money back. She started shouting and telling me I hadn't paid, so I hung up on her.

I tracked the letter the next morning and it had in fact been delivered and signed for the previous day when this woman called me. I called I.C. System and was told the account had been paid in full. I stated that I wanted written confirmation of that, which I also requested in writing when I sent the letter from my bank and a page from my bank statement.

They kept telling me that the credit bureaus would be notified weekly until I took care of this debt. When I made the payment to them on 8/3/06, I was told that if I paid it that day in full, the account would never be reported to the credit bureaus. So, I demanded that they remove every trace of the account from the credit bureau files, as well as the inquiries, and if I checked the report and found that this hadn't been done, I would take the matter further.

I'm just glad it's done with now.
