Spouse negotiating???

The calls are really increasing now and he wants me to negotiate with the companies. He received a lump sum severance that is about 50% of his credit card debt. We have it in the bank. Has anyone had to add a spouse as a person who can discuss the account? Just curious how much of a hassle it was. I'm hoping to get these settled in the 30-40% range and use the balance to pay towards the IRS debt we owe. :(
Thanks,
Marie
I don't think it will create any problem if you negotiate on you
I don't think it will create any problem if you negotiate on your husband's behalf. But it will better if he negotiates on his own. The settlement percentage will depend upon your negotiation skills.

Thanks. Well I am also an attorney, thus his reason for wanting me to negotiate and he just doesn't argue very well. :) I haven't decided if it's better to do this as his wife or his attorney. ?? I did speak to one creditor and told them I was his wife and he wanted me to talk with them and they mentioned some 3rd party form. I considered sending them Power of Attorney forms but still debating the best way to approach them.
Any other attorneys on the forum who negotiated with your own creditors (or a spouses) and not reveal you were an attorney? Pros/cons?
