I received a call from someone claiming to be with Allied Interstate. They said they were collecting on a 22 year old bill. They couldn't tell me exactly what the company was that the debt was originally incurred with. I don't believe this debt ever existed, but it was a very long time ago. Is the statute of limitations expired? What can I do to protect myself so this isn't reported onto my credit?

Hi Dawn,

This is WAY outside the statute of limitations. I wouldnt even bother talking to these people about it. I would send them a certified letter telling them to cease all communication immediately regarding this debt. They cannot legally report it to your credit report, and they cannot legally sue you over it because it is so old, so I would tell them to get lost. They cant even tell you who the original creditor is!! How in the world can they expect anyone to pay them a penny when they cannot even identify the debt??

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
The Statute of limitations period in Colorado is 6 years. So, even if you owed the debt, the collection agency can't file lawsuit against you. Never acknowledge that the debt is yours. Know more about how to deal with Allied Interstate from the following page:
