I am currently working with Prosper Financial to help settle our debts. Has anyone had success with Prosper or a different debt settlment company? I've only been with them for about 7 months and its already been a long road with creditors harassing us - we have a couple accounts that have to go to collections before they can be settled. I guess I could just use some reassurance that I'm not paying this company a ton of $ for nothing. Thanks

Go here. I think I have the right company in the link. They sound to be a good debt settlement company.

Now, a debt settlement program is exclusively for those who can't afford to pay the minimums. This is also for those people who can't afford the payments set in the consolidation plan also. If the debts aren't paid, there is always the fear of a lawsuit from the creditor. A collector will harass and force you to pay the debts. The situation cannot get fixed easily until you make the right move.

You have to rely on such programs like a debt settlement. Neither the creditor is fully benefited if you do debt settlement, nor you can get the best credit ratings in this program. But this program acts as a consolation to both of you. The creditor gets some of their money and your debt is reduced from the total balance and paid off. Of course, you avoid the chances of legal actions if the creditor intends to take against you.

You must exercise all your options which one works the best. Go through this link for your options. For some people in hard times, bankruptcy is also a choice. Debt settlement stands just in between these two extremes.

Hi Rachael,

I have been working with a different debt settlement company since March of this year. They are a reputable company and I've been happy with them. I am still waiting on my first debt to be settled but they have done an excellent job of working with my creditors thus far. They did not contact my creditors until I was three months into the program. After that, the calls at home and work stopped. Debt settlement can take some time to settle your first account but it's a shorter program in the long run. I'm hoping to have my first debt settled by the end of the year. This would be a great way to ring in the new year. I am on an 18 month program so I will be finished next fall. I'm looking forward to becoming debt free :-)
