40K in unsecured credit card debt, half of which is supporting the maintenance on my house(which is to be sold soon)and the other is materials' cost on my Dad's retirement cabin that he ran out of money for. DOH! Wish me luck.

Tomorrow I talk with Superior debt relief about some kind of 'negotiated' program they have whereby I can reduce my debtload by 18K and have the total amount paid off in about 35mo.........I've never heard of such a thing, but.......

debt settlement program gives out positive results at the end of the program. The thing that concerns most is when you are involved in the plan. The accounts are kept delinquent for the first 4 months and after this period, the settlement company starts negotiating with the credit companies. You have to consider the factor that the credit companies want to get their money back rather than posting it as bad debt in their books. Besides, there is a risk that the file may go out of the SOL period and hence customer can refuse paying it in legal terms. These companies understand such situation and if they have dealt with your credit companies in the past, you are sure to get positive results at the end. Keep your fingers crossed until you have talked with the settlement company and then decide your best moves. This link will explain how debt settlement program works.
