Hi there,
In order to help you, much more information is needed. First, how are they threatening them? They need to get the name of the company, the name or operator number of the representative who is making the threats and immediately document everything that was said in the conversation.
If bodily threats were made, they need to immediately file police reports in their local communities. If other threats were made, ie, they are going to ruin their credit ratings, bank accounts, etc, or they need to immediately pay them so much money or they will be arrested, etc, I would immediately report them to your state's office of the Attorney General, as these are violations of the federal dept collection practice act.
Also, by getting the name of the collection company, it can be determined if they even have a license to do business in your state. Keep us posted on this.

Closing lines of communication, avoiding the collection calls and not paying your bills on time clearly implies that you're trying to deceive your payday loan lenders and escape without paying the bills. Therefore it is always better to work out an alternative plan with your lender or contact a debt consolidation company.
Every state has different laws to protect the consumers from the harassment of debt collectors. According to the FDCPA, no debt collector is allowed to harass you or threaten you for a debt that you owe them. They are not even allowed to threaten you with the intention of suing you. Learn about the state usury laws so that you know your rights and stay protected.

You have taken the right step by reporting the matter to A.G. As per the FDCPA laws, the collection agencies can contact your friends or relatives once when they are not able to reach you. However, they are forbidden from threatening your relatives or friends. You can also report the matter to FTC. They will investigate and take the correct step.
