No, unfortunately that won't work because the old bank will (actually probably already has depending on how long your account has been negative) report your card to chexsystems and that will block you from opening a new bank account anywhere else. If I were you I'd try to open a new account at another bank as soon as possible, and then try to work out a payment arrangement with the other bank. See if they can knock off most of the overdraft fees.

There is a link in that first post there that was compiled by one of our experts here on this forum. It will take you to her web page, where you can find a list of banks that do not rely on chexsystems to validate new bank accounts.

I'd try to go to a regular bank first. Non chexsystems banks are not usually reliable. There are exceptions like ING Direct, but that's because they don't let you have a checking account without passing a credit check.

USAA only gives non chex banks to military/military affiliated members. Suntrust does check accounts through telecheck though. Suntrust is going to close you down if you have a bad record. Not familiar with the other two but if they don't use tele or chex I'd be shocked.. many of those "second chance checking" sites are not even FDIC insured.

I currently use two different banks. Chase being one, and Teche Federal being the other. Teche is actually more reliable than Chase has been. I have had absolutely zero issues with Teche. Chase, on the other hand, I'm actually considering dropping them. And Regions Bank, which soaplady mentioned already, is very reliable. Chase was horrible....last week I was evacuated for Hurricane Isaac, and Chase has a bad habit of blocking access to your funds if your account is used in a place outside of where you live. They did not even bother to call me first--which they routinely have told me they are supposed to do before putting a fraud block on an account. So, I was evacuated nearly 400 miles from home, with my wife and kids....and could not access the money in my Chase accounts because they suspected fraud when I put gas in my truck in Shreveport, LA. They are unreliable, very inconsistent, and it's getting to the point where the last five or six customer checks that I deposited in my business account were each held for days longer than they should have been--without any explanation from the bank. I have actually had to call them each time and bug them to release the funds into my account. At the very least, I am moving my business banking away from Chase this week. I own my business and I cannot afford to be locked out of accessing my business funds when they are needed. If I did not also bank with Teche, I would have been completely unable to access any money while I was there.

Teche did not require a credit check.

The banks I mentioned are not "second chance checking" sites. They are both FDIC insured. Regions Financial Corp is one of the top bank holding companies in the country, and has been around since 1970. Not exactly the fly by night operation you make these companies sound like. Teche Federal bank has been around for over 70 years and is the 4th largest publicly traded bank in my state. We are not talking about some rinky dink tribal bank or something.....I understand that they are not Cap One, and actually that adds to their appeal. It's been my personal experience that when Cap One asks "What's in your wallet??", the answer is Capital One's greedy hands. Cap One tried coming after me for a credit card they claimed I took out with them two years before I was old enough to obtain credit--they reported on my credit report and everything. That mess followed me around for over five years, until finally I was able to get Cap One to stop the nonsense. But then, they had sold the "debt" off to someone else, and the hilarity ensued all over again...

Ooh trust me I am not peddling capital one bank. I don't bank with capital one... I use Chase ( for the freedom card bonus) and have another checking w/ usaa. Cap1 bank sucks
I only have one cap1 credit card also that I got to BT student loans to. Cap1 credit cards are by no means the best on the market. If you have over 710-720 FICO, look elsewhere because cap1 ain't for you. If you have a card ask the service rep if he/she has a card. Most people I know at work don't have cap1 bank accounts or cards.
how could you trust a bsnk that doesn't even screen its members.
how could you trust a bsnk that doesn't even screen its members. this sounds to good to be true why Would these banks approve someone with bad banking history for an account without ulterior motive
RE: Regions Bank
Regions Bank does do a backround check on new customers the difference is they do not use chex systems. Normally they will open an account as long as you dont owe them money and you have not been accused of passing bad or forged checks.
Huntington Bank (FDIC insured) also offers second chance account
Huntington Bank (FDIC insured) also offers second chance accounts. As long as anything on a Telecheck or Chex report has been paid, they will give you an account.

They're not bad cards. But there are better ones out there, especially if you have stellar credit. Good credit could mean a lot of things. By good do you mean 620, or do you mean 790? Capital one is not the subprime lender it was years ago, but today it is still oriented towards those with not so perfect credit. Those with perfect credit usually only take advantage of capital one for balance transfer offers on the platinum prestige or for one of the other platinum cards for their low APR. The rewards cards offered by capital one are just not that great. The cash cards work out to be 1.5 percent cash back a year.. I make more money back and I spend about the same as my co worker who has the cash card and I use the amex blue cash. Unfortunately the lower grade cash card from cap1 has an annual fee. Anytime a cash rewards card has an annual fee, steer clear. Travel rewards with an annual fee are a different story as you really won't find one without an AF.
