Has it become more difficult to settle even with outside collection company like GECC for American express? Have some of the laws affected this that were passed in march of 2009.
I have tried to settle with them and am very close to 120 days, and they don???t seem to be very interested in 40 percent. I am borrowing from 401k just to do this. The agent claims the company will ask for more documentation than I have provided, which is debt from the IRS, State I live in, and what my income is. They are stating only 65 percent. Do you now if that is true?

AMEX is a very agressive collector. They would rather sue than settle at 40%. Do a search of the forum to see what they routinely settle for.

Coming from AMEX, 65 percent seems like a very good deal. I think you should really consider taking it in case you can somehow afford it.
