Welcome! You will find so much wonderful information and great people that willing to help.
First, I would find out what the hardship progrma is going to offer you. If it is something you can handle then why not go for it. If you can't afford what they are offering you maybe you could continue to negotiate.
If the companies are not willing to offer you something that you can afford then your other options would be to :
1. debt settlement
2. debt consolidation
3. Bankruptcy
If you decide you want to go for one of the options and you want to hire someone else to help you with it make sure you really know the company that you are hiring.
Most of us here have been where you are. You are not alone. You can get through this and you will.

djsmith are you for real? Or should i say Mr. Pemper. Absolutely shameless. The top 3 according to who? Nice how 3 different services are listed and to no coincidence all of which are services you provide.

Hello. I just currently did several settlements on my own with B of A and they reduced my balances by 25%-30%. They were very nice to me also. My debt was reduced over $18,000. I stood my ground as to how much I had to offer and work with them on. I was 60 days behind when I began talking with them. I never threatened or became upset when the conversation was not going in my favor. However, I did explain that I had talked with an attorney and I did qualify for Chapter 7, but that I did not want to have to do that. This website has wonderful advice and is worth every word I read. I obtained a lot of knowledge about debt settlement here, and it helped me greatly. Just remember to always stay calm. If the person you are dealing with is not listening to you, end the conversation and call again in a couple of days. Do not make them angry with you, that will not work in your favor. Explain your situation, but don't be lengthy. I wish you well.
