I'm considering the debt settlement option to solve credit card problems. I owe $17,000. How much should I expect to pay a debt negotiating firm, and how much of the 17 grand should I expect to pay? Thanks. Bob

Bob - from what I've heard, typically the fees and settlement amounts come out to about 55% of the balance. The problem many people encounter is that they need time to save up the money and during those months they end up paying the settlement company their monthly fees. (I don't know what those are.)
