Debt in the UK

Hi guys!
In Dec 2006 I had to leave the UK as my visa expired. At that stage I had 6 000GBP worth of personal debt. I now want to go back to the UK as I have recently secured my EU passport. Will I be allowed back into the UK and how should I go about sorting out the old debt?
