I started getting phone calls on my cell this week from Convergent. It is an automated call and they ask for me by name.When I confirm that it's me they are calling, I get transfered to a person who asks me to confirm my social security number and address. When I tell them I won't give out personal info without them telling me what it is about they hang up.
Today I got a collection letter saying I owe $10,687 but they will settle for $1,068. I have no idea what this is. My husband said to throw it away but the letter says I have to contact them if it is not my debt.
I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Give them the last 4 digits of your social security number only.
Give them the last 4 digits of your social security number only...if it is not your account, they cannot do anything with 4 numbers. A lot of CA's will not disclose why they are calling without verification like an SSI #.
Have you checked your credit report lately???
