Being sued

Midland Funding LLC has hired a law firm to sue me for a bebt I owed to a credit card company and on public record it says ASSIGNEE OF HSBC. Does that mean Midland Funding is sueing on behalf of HSBC, or does this mean Midland Funding still purchased the debt and it is no longer HSBC?
