I have weighed the consolidation and settlement options and checked out a few companies. There is no easy way to get out of the mess I am in, but Superior Debt Services seems like one of the better debt settlement companies. I signed up with them yesterday, but still have the 10 day back-out period to change my mind.

Can anyone give me any recent feedback on them?

Ok - as you can see, it has been awhile since I posted. I joined SDS. Had one local company send me a court summons and I took that out of the SDS program. Otherwise, it has been fantastic! I would very skeptical. But, I have settled 23 accounts: an $800 for $397, a $7500 for $1200, and a $6000 account for $1100. Man, I am pumped! I couldn't be more happier! a long way to go, but this helps me breathe easier! Duncan and and Melissa at SDS will take care of you!!!

I am enrolling in this program today. I've spoken with Shelia Brown and after what I've read here I am excited to take the next step. I unfortunately signed up with Credit Solutions of America (creditsolutions.com) I was with them for 3 months and could never get any answers. I found this site and after reading not ONE GOOD thing, I had to discontinue my business with them

I had my consultation call from debt consolidation Care and they put me in touch with SDS. Very nice to be on the road. I will update as progress is made.

Shawncg -

That is fantastic. I signed up with them in August. I also have Melissa as my rep. I have 7 accounts with a total of $65,000 in debt. Can I ask how much total debt you had, what creditors they where, and how much for each. Also, how have you been handling the creditor calls? I am dealing with this now.

Thanks.

Hello,
I actually sent my debt information to another company the other day, but reading all of this makes me want to check out SDS. I checked the BBB and they have a satisfactory rating, which is good. I'm in a bunch of debt also and am also looking for advice  so I wish you all the best of luck!!

I have been with Superior since February. I had 90,000 of credit card debt (9 accounts) acquired in trying to keep a business afloat. Within just a few months, settlements were reached on both of my Bank of America accounts at only 30%. Since funds were tied up with that for a few months, I received a super offer on an Advanta account that I settled on my own. The amount of estimated settlement on the Advanta, plus the part of my fee that was figured on that amount, is being deducted from my monthly payments so that will be less also. They have been very good in dealing with the creditors and collectors so I don't have to, plus, my account rep is always available when I call or email. On the rare occasions she is out of the office, there is always someone else in the office familiar enough with my case to give me the information or answers I need. So far, I have had a very positive experience. The first few months are the worst as far as the phone calls, but once the creditors and collectors all know that you are in a settlement program, and that company has your power of attorney to negotiate the settlements, the calls will drop off.

My Advanta account was a business account, and I owed $22,600. They offered me a 10% settlement, to be paid in two installments, three weeks apart. The alternative was a summons, which I did receive, but which was nullified because I took the settlement deal. I want to point out, that the fact I received the summons was in no way the fault of Superior, but is an absolute risk in any settlement program, or even if you do it yourself. My funds with Superior at that time were committed to paying off the settlements for my two Bank of America accounts, so there was no money in the program for Advanta at that time. That's why I had to settle on my own, outside of the program. Some creditors are not as patient when it comes to settling, and lawsuits are possible, although rare, when you are trying to settle accounts and don't have the funds to pay everyone at once. I have read where some people criticize a settlement company because they were sued while in their program, when in fact, they probably did not have the money to settle that particular account saved up yet. It's one thing when a settlement company takes all your money and runs off with it, like Sifxpert apparently did, but not the fault of the company when you simply have not put enough aside yet, for settling the accounts that want it right away. It's a problem you can have when you "do-it-yourself" as well.

I got a summons over 8 weeks ago, responded to it, and have Advanta's charge-off department calling me again. I am wondering why the court has not contacted me again, after my response, but Advanta's charge off department is again and threatening to sue in court? I am in a program that is helping, but wonder if I should try for a settlement and be done with it already? Did you get the offer in writing? Did they clear your credit report? Thanks.

I was about nine months overdue on my payments when I got "the deal". They sent it to me in writing, once by regular mail, once in a large Priority Mail envelope. Also, I got it by email. The summons also came by Priority Mail. Since I had already called and accepted the settlement, I had a contact at Advanta I called and talked to when the summons came, just a few days later. She told me that a "hold" would be placed on it, until the settlement was paid. I did get a confirmation that the summons was dismissed, by mail, about a month later. As far as my credit report, it is indicated that "account was paid as agreed, but for lesser amount than originally owed" or something to that effect. I think it is best that you actually call them and talk to somebody to clear it all up. Also, I wouldn't necessarily expect a 10% settlement - I had a large amount to start with, I had been with them a long time, and they understood my business had closed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control - I think the settlement offer depends on a lot of different factors.
