Unifund's attorney wants my tax returns and pay stubs to determine a settlement after rejecting my offer. Is this normal?

CT- I proposed a settlement but they requested tax returns and pay stubs. Its 30,000 which is all penalties and fees. I offered 9000 at 200 a month for 45months or 5000 in one payment.

They are not going to want to take the 45 months...that is not a settlement, that is payment plan. You are offering less than 20%...they are more likely to sue.

What is the amount that they will usually accept? 20% 30%?

How about 80%. I did some searching and it appears Unifund would rather sue than settle.

How old is this debt?? Date of first deliquency??

I personally would provide tax returns rather than the pay stub. The reason: pay stubs will identify your employer while tax returns won't.

The last thing you want to do when someone is suing you is to educate them about how they can collect from you.

Also, like Soap said, a term settlement over the course of 24 months is unlikely in your situation.

What is the status of the lawsuit?

Do you still have time to file an answer?

Have you met with an attorney to help you with that answer?

In respect to Unifunds flexibility, they will settle. It will all boil down to how collectable you are. The possible range may be 40 - 80%.

What state do you live in?
Are you a home owner?
How long have you been on your job?
What is your annual income?
Are you behind on any other accounts? (if so, who and how much are those balances?)
