Is it possible to get a PFD (pay for delete) on credit cards that I had for over 5 years and only stopped making payments the last year due to financial difficulties?

I read that ongoing accounts such as credit cards can not be deleted from credit reports.

Any negative item will remain in your credit report for 7 years. However, if you decide to pay off your credit card debts in full or go for a settlement, you can request your creditor for a "pay for delete". If the creditor agrees to it, then he may erase all the information on that account from your credit report.

Thanks.
So the PFDs I am reading about are for one time reporting by merchants - not credit card companies?

Questions I have:
1) Doe sit make a difference how long you had the account for.
2) Are there some companies that have possibly done this due to circumstances - for example the account holder says that the debt was incurred by another family member that he had no control over?
3) Is there a difference if the account was charged off or not?
4) Is there a law against a CC company doing this?

Anna.....paid for deletes just dont happen. I dont know where you are copying your information from.
Let me make it very clear to you Soaplady that I DO NOT copy information. Copying of content is against the forum rules. Please do not make false accusations and say things just for the sake of saying.

As far as pay for delete is concerned, it does happen. However, it is true that It will remain the creditor???s discretion whether or not he will agree to a borrower???s request for a ???pay for delete???. You can check out the given pages for more information in this matter: "www.creditinfocenter.com/debt/pay-for-delete.shtml" (You will even find the source of information mentioned in the article.) and "www.freecreditscorehelp.com/pay-for-delete-letters-to-remove-delinquent-accounts/" . I don???t think a website like Creditinfocenter will be offering wrong information.

Anna....it is an article....of an old technique. However, the fact of the matter is, creditors are NOT doing it. You have no experience in the industry or personal experience for that matter. You are just giving people false hope.

Pay for delete is an old concept...it was used to foster goodwill, to retain a customer. In this day and age, the creditors dont want you back as a customer...they just want the cash. Debtors are wasting their time asking......the creditors have pretty well made it a blanket policy not to do a paid for delete anymore....too many people were asking and what was it doing for them? Nothing. So, they now report accurately and factually...as required by law.

I'm aware of the fact that pay for delete is an old concept. But I will disagree with you that creditors are not doing it. I didn't find anything which states that the creditors have made it a blanket policy to not offer pay for delete.

I'm surprised to know that you know so much about me that you state in an open forum that I don't have any personal experience. Well… I guess there is hardly anyone in this forum who hasn't faced debt issues at some point of time in their lives.

Well… I never knew that a creditor won't require customers. How will a creditor do his business if he doesn’t have satisfied customers or maintain his customers? Sorry, I fail to agree to your statement.

Also, let me tell you that I don’t give "false hope" to anyone. Of course, I definitely try giving hope to people as I believe unless you’ve hope, it will be difficult for you to survive. Moreover, what I’ve suggested to the OP was that he should speak to his creditor for once regarding pay for delete. There is no harm in doing so – isn’t it? The OP may be lucky enough and get a pay for delete.
