I've been doing some research to find prior complaints against MMI debt consolidation company. The latest activity I can find here is Jan 2009 but that was apparently unresolved. Does anyone have experience with MMI and/or suggest some other place I can get information? I've been with MMI for almost 2 years and try not to deal with them unless absolutely necessary because they drive me nuts. I don't think they have ANY idea what they're doing and I think they care even less. I'm worried and any information or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks for responding. I looked thru the threads you sent but none of them really addressed my concern. I'm not sure there IS an answer. I think at this point I'm actually looking for somewhere to "officially" complain about them because I'm actually worried that they don't know (or care) about what they're doing.
In my particular case, this "non-profit" business charges me $35 a month only to automatically deduct my payment from my bank account and wire transfer it to my creditors. They get VERY upset if I make a payment directly to the creditor and insist I'm supposed to pay MMI so that they can make the payment. Who cares as long as the creditor is paid and the accounts are brought up to date online?!
They say the creditor is the only one who determines the APR and they don't have anything to do with that. However, I do know that these debt consolidation places are able to get lower APR rates than I could have done on my own, but after 2 years, that's the only good thing I have to say about them, and ANY debt consolidation company has that ability.
If they cannot do anything except set up the initial terms, I fail to understand what good they are and why that's worth $35 a month or how they arrive at that figure. When I first contacted them, they engaged in some very creative math and when I said I would not be able to pay that amount each month, they went through the numbers again and came up with a lower amount. I was current paying my bills until I signed up with them, but like other people on this thread, they told me to stop paying the creditor and by the time they got my money distributed, I was 2 months behind and had piled up late fees and additional charges. 2 years later I still have one account that has a past due of over $200. MMI says they can't do anything about that.
I went with MMI because they were recommended on a financial website as a non-profit corporation. I didn't realize I had to pay for their services each and every month and I only found out when I called them to find out why the amount they said I would pay every month was higher than what they originally told me. Apparently it was supposed to be a surprise.
I have many other specific (and too numerous) complaints to go into here, but I am very worried that their records are incomplete and certainly not correct. Not only do I get a different answer from a different person each time, but they get upset if I question anything. Overall, MMI is a rude and unprofessional company and fails to recognize that their customers may not be as familiar with the debt consolidation business as MMI.
I'm sure they hear the same questions and problems 100 times a day, but part of their responsibility is to remember that their customers are paying customers who are stressed and relying on them for courteous and professional behavior and advice. I would hope they'd be thankful they have jobs and hopefully not in the same position as the people who have to use their services.
