am I responsible for the debt?

My mother has taken out an extra credit card on her account around 5 years back. She did it so that I can use it for renovating my grandmother's house. I have used the card for only 3-4 months. After that, I have never used the card. But last week, I got a call from the card company. They told I owe around $5000 on the card. How is this possible? i have not applied for the card so I must not owe the debt. Am I right?
If you are an authorized user of the account, then you'll not be
If you are an authorized user of the account, then you'll not be liable for the debt. However, the account will be listed on your credit report in the accounts that are not in good standing category. If you are a joint holder of the account, then you are responsible for the debt.
