I just received a card worth $50 from Capital One saying that all I need to do is call them to discuss options they have for me. If I call, I can use this money for anything. My account is 138 days past due. Is this normal procedure for them and do other cards do this?

The first paragraph on the back says "This gift card is issued by Metabank. It is not affiliated with Capital One and Capital One does not provide, endorse, nor guarantee and is not liable for any product or service shown here". If it's not affiliated with Capital One, why are they using their logo, etc?

Is Crap One contracting this outfit to bribe me?

One paragraph on the front of the letter says "When you call to discuss your account, you can activate this $50 "thank you gift card"- no strings attached. Use it to buy gas, groceries or a gift for yourself. Whatever you prefer. It's your money.

This is one ruthless bank and I don't trust them whatsoever. Probably, an attempt to lure me into a trap.

I had this same offer. I called and was able to make arrangements to bring my account up to date over 4 months. I only owed them about $1200 at the time and they refused to settle. Since I had settled my other accounts, this was not a big deal for me. I made arrangements and had the $50 which I DID use for gas! My account is now current and I owe only $900. (Maybe this will help my credit score?)
