Now I'm even more concerned, please help!

After reading other posts about MCM I am really concerned. They contacted me regarding a legitimate $2,000 debt several months ago. I started weekly $25.00 payments 7 weeks ago. Now a "supervisor" is contacting me regarding a payoff offer, stating that the offer is only good today, must be done over the phone, and will be reported to all three bureaus as paid in full. They will not provide anything in writing until after payment is made. Just reading what I have written here it sound like a scam. Is there not any way to contact the original creditor and pay the debt directly to them? I am in Texas. Thanks for your help
Midland is a junk debt buyer so the original creditor is now out

Never pay a settlement with a settlement offer in your hands first. Plus your credit report will be marked as settled in full, not paid in full.
