This is my first post, but not my first visit to the site. I have received great information from this site and it's forum.

I settle my first credit card tonight. Without this site I wouldn't have had the knowledge of how to settle and would of still had that helpless feeling. A little over a year ago I had great credit, but how things can change in a year when your income is affected.

After my mortgage (which I was missing payments on to pay credit cards) I owe close to $40,000.00 in credit cards and medical payments. The credit cards are what spiraled out of control and is sinking me. Two months ago I experienced panic attacks for the first time in my life and my marriage was getting rocky. Then I ran into this site.

I decided to try with our oldest unpaid credit card; US Bank (which is also our lowest). It was about 4 months since we made a payment and the bill today was at $5,600.00. They settled tonight for $2,500.00. I'm waiting for the confirmation letter and then they'll get paid.

I didn't even know I could do this myself and thought I would have to go through a debt settlement company about which I've heard horror stories. I'm sure not all are bad, but I didn't have the time to find or money to find out. I received papers from the credit card company on Saturday saying there were going to hand me over to the legal department, but I held my ground.

I'm writing this for others out there lurking feeling helpless. There is hope yet.

Now on to my next card and another good report.

Don't get me wrong I don't like not paying what I owe, but I have found no other way right now.
