Bank paid stolen check
Date: Fri, 09/18/2009 - 23:38
Someone stole a personal check from me and took it to Bank of America in Memphis, TN for 750.00. The check had several errors.(1)it was signed on the left side in the (for)space. (2)it was written out for seventy hundred fifty dollars(3)no thumbprint (4) no i.d information on back(5)no endorsement and the funny part(6)the back is totally blank no bank inprint to show what account nor bank it went through. I did not find out until i checked my account balance and i called my personal bank BanCorpSouth in Jackson, TN. Either bank ever tried to contact me, my phone is nationwide. they finally did refund me the 750.00. It took about two weeks. I would like to know what can I do to hold Bank of America responsible for cashing this check. It really seems like it maybe a inside job. What are the chances of this check not going through the printer with all of these redflags? I am an over the road driver. I had to miss three days of work to take care of this. I filed a police report and signed an affidavant with my bank.
Well not having endorsement, id information or thumbprint are no
Well not having endorsement, id information or thumbprint are not errors. Somewhere on that check has to MICR encoding....little numbers airblown by the sorter on the back or front of the check. These numbers are used to backtrack everything.
Your issue should be with YOUR bank, not Bank of America.
