Yes I was wondering what are some good reputable companies for debt settlement. I have 2 cards totaling about 17,000. One has been charged off and the other company is not willing to work with me to get back on track. I am unable to really make the minium payments and was looking for a company that could help me however I am leary of alot of the places out there right now and looking for any help or info you all might have.
Thanks

Guess that is a option. Main thing is im nervous because I have never done anything like that. I really dont know much about settlement and well dont wont to get sued by the creditors. Im really nervous if they were to take it to court so would like to have a professional on my side. However if you advise trying it myself then I will give it a shot. I dont have much money saved up to take care of the settlement at this point.

Really you stand as much chance of getting sued with a debt settlement company as without

Thanks Soaplady. I thought that if I had a debt settlement company talking with them all the time that they would be less likely to sue. My problem is having all the funds to settle at this point.

Thanks for the info and advice soaplady. I reside in TN so will have to check laws around here reguarding some of this stuff. I will definately give it a go by myself. Should I call the companies and just tell them about my harship and offer a settlement? I had a settlement offer on one of them from GE Money through Encore at %45 I think it was but I coulds pay the four payments at that but they would not give it to me in writing as I might have been able to borrow the money from family or something. One CC HSBC offered a settlement when they still held the account and after it was charged off Mecantile got it and is collecting for main street aquisition comp and they offered double what the original offer from HSBC was.

i wish one of these debt collectors nationwide making headlines lately for threatening to beat up people, kill people, blow up people's homes w/families inside, etc. would come pay ME a visit, then see how fast the company they represent find themselves planning for an office funeral. many are gonna be begging to get out of the business.

it's long past due time that the shoe must now go on the other foot and the more these abusive practices are publicized, it's only a matter of time before it will.

Greetings,

You can do debt settlement by yourself (and with a little help from your friends in this great forum)

For what it's worth.....you've gotta read, read and read some more in here.

Ask questions and don't be bashful......we've been there.

Good Luck,
