Chase closed my account and wrote off the amount I owed, $48 dollars. I never received a bill, but reagrdless I would have payed but now what do I do ?

This is frustrating, as I tried to pay this when I discovered it, but they said I owed "them" nothing, as the amount was sent to collections.

I will pay the debt, but how do I do so to keep the damage to my credit report to a minimum ? Any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks

did you ask them were it was sent to? what collection agency that it went to? usually they should be able to direct you to were the debt went to and have contact information. or you could wait till you recieve a letter from the collector but alot of times that could be awhile. as for your credit rating, its mostlikely already on there as delinquent and sent to collections there isnt really much you can do about it until its paid. i would start by calling the origional creditor and see were it went to

Thanks for the reply..........

The person I spoke with had little information about what happened to the amount in question. At first, they said they made an adjustment, and that I owed a dollar finace charge. Then they said they waived the dollar after putting me on hold.

It is strange that I tried to pay this amount, but could not.

Chase was sure in a hurry to close my account. I had it since 1997, but seldom used it anyway as I had paid off the balance years ago. It was only because I used it in August, to keep the account active, that this all came about.
I actually have (had) two Chase accounts. I may have sent the amount due to the other Chase account. I told them this, but they could care less. Not that I blame them, but I want to pay the thing, and do it correctly to minimize any damage.
