Why would you want to do it anyway? If it is a legitimate debt, it would be of your best interest to pay it off and be done with.
If you ask the collector to stop collection activities, they can then sue you for the debt.

I agree, telling them to stop collection attempts is basically a refusal to pay in their eyes. If they have verified the debt, and it is legitimately your's, you can send them a Cease & Desist, this should stop phone calls.
